You Only Get To Make This Decision Once.
You left a job you gave years to, and a few weeks later a package showed up asking whether you want the monthly pension or the commuted value. There's a date on it, and with most plans it's a choice you only get to make once. In 15 minutes I'll go through it with you and show you what you actually have. Grab a time below.
The Two Choices On That Form
Most people have never had either one properly explained to them.
The plan pays you a set amount for the rest of your life. You don't manage it, and once you've chosen you generally can't change your mind.
The value of your pension moved into a locked-in account in your name. You decide how it's invested, within the rules that apply to it.
Neither one is automatically the right answer. Which one fits comes down to your age, your health, your spouse, what else you've put away, and your own plan's rules. Working that out is exactly what the review is for.
General information only. Locked-in accounts have rules about when and how you can draw from them, and those rules vary by plan and by province.

Taroop Faridkot
Hi, I'm Taroop. I've been a licensed advisor in British Columbia for over ten years, and pensions are what I spend most of my time on. I went through this myself with my own pension, so I know exactly what that envelope feels like when it lands. On our call I'll go through your package with you, page by page, and show you what you actually have and what each option really means for you. And if the right answer is to leave it exactly where it is, that's what I'll tell you.

What Happens On The Call
No pressure to move anything. Just a clear look at what you have and what your choices actually mean.
We look at your package
Have the statement or the letter your employer sent to hand. I'll tell you what you're actually holding and what the deadline on it means.
You see what each option means
Retirement income, tax, what happens to your spouse, what happens to your estate, and what you'd be giving up either way.
You decide, before the deadline
Zero obligation. And if leaving your pension exactly where it is turns out to be the right answer, that's what I'll tell you.
